Our Home for Christmas 2017

Merry Christmas, friends! I absolutely love having our home decorated for Christmas. I would probably have a Christmas tree of some variety in every room if I didn't think it would make Andrew question my sanity. Ha! I love the sparkle and shine of the season and how cozy it makes everything feel.

I love having this magnetic chalkboard clock to hang all of Grace's schoolwork. Especially when it's a holiday season and themed! Is there anything better than a craft made out of your child's hands and feet?!
Kitchen details. If you're not a Christmas Vacation fan then you're going to think we're really offensive with the top right sign, but if you are, then you're bound to chuckle.

Sweet little nativity scene.

Grace picked out and decorated her tree herself!

I almost picked these up to pose them for a picture then decided to leave them in their natural state for authenticity purposes. Grace loves to use them for war and is constantly moving them around the house.

Merry Christmas, from our home to yours!

Christmas Wishlist 2017

Believe it or not, I'm still here! I've been saying for the last four months I want to start writing more regularly again, so nothing like my husband requesting a Christmas list "like last year, please!" to finally get me moving. I plan on doing a full catch-up post within the week, but for now, here's my wishlist for 2017. Christmas is only 17 days away, y'all! 'Tis the season!

ONE: I've been saying that we need to invest in an external hard drive for months. I do back up our photos to an online site, but I would feel more comfortable having a hard drive as well.

TWO: Y'all, I hate ironing. Absolutely despise it! I've had this in my Amazon cart for the better part of six months. This would make my life so much easier since I could prevent things like ironing little ruffles on toddler dresses or getting creases out of curtains. Important stuff, I know.

THREE: A compact, wireless printer that would prevent me from having to run up to FedEx Office every time I need to bring a single item. It has good Amazon reviews and is definitely in the lower price range which is ideal since it's not an everyday item.
FOUR: This palette is full of colors that are my favorite for blue eyes and I love the NARS eyeshadow formula. Just so, so pretty.
FIVE: Everyday staple! Definitely my top Christmas want.
SIX: I've read several times that sleeping on a silk pillowcase is better for hair tangles and for anti-aging benefits and I am all about anything that claims it has wrinkle prevention!
SEVEN: Old Navy flannels are my favorite and you can't beat the price at under $20. I would love to receive any of the colors.
EIGHT: I had been eyeing a pair of Ugg slippers for the past several months and then stumbled across these for a third of the price. Plus, they come in blush pink (my favorite!) and you can have them monogrammed. And I'll never turn down a monogram!

ONE: I do not own a single pair of true no-show socks! I always wish I had some when I wear my casual/errand sneakers.
TWO: I have an Amazon wishlist of over thirty books and I love a good thriller! I loved both other books that I've read by this author.
THREE: Absolute best hair ties! I sleep in one every night.
FOUR: This cuticle oil is the best that I've tried and a nice holiday treat to receive.
FIVE: My hands have been SO dry the last few weeks and everything by this brand is great for a little holiday indulgence.
SIX: A rollerball of my current perfume would always be a great thing to have to be able to carry with me out and about. I love, love, love this scent!
SEVEN: Best dry shampoo ever. I go through it like water.
EIGHT: OPI nail polishes are my favorite formula and I really love the classic shades 'Bubble Bath' and 'Big Apple Red' + they're currently 2 for $16 at Ulta!

{Her little shoes are my favorite!}
Grace's birthday fell on a Monday this year so we had her birthday party the Saturday before her birthday. Grace absolutely loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse so I went with that as her theme.

In one month my baby will be TWO! Planning of her party is officially under her way, down to picking out party favors and ordering cookies. I know that I have said this in every one of these, but I am just in shock at how quickly we have gotten to two years old. Does time magically move faster once you have a child? I think that it must.
NEW WORDS... Grace is honestly saying so many words that I've lost track! Right now, I'm trying to remember the phrases that she is putting together instead of the new individual words. She says what Andrew (affectionately) refers to as machine gun no's when she doesn't want to do something. "No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, NO, NOOO!" She can fire them off in quite the rapid succession. She says things like, "Grace sit here" and "Read book please." She can say her own little prayer: Dear
God, thank you, Amen. Sometimes, she just starts chatting away, will stop and laugh, chat again, repeat, repeat. It makes us laugh so hard, which she knows, which is why she does it.
GRACE-ISMS... I've mentioned before that Grace is ultra girly and loves to play with make-up and jewelry, so I picked her up some stick-on earrings a few weeks go and, of course, she loves them. Sometimes she even shares this love with Hendrix. Hendrix had surgery earlier this month and had to wear a cone for a bit. Grace decided the cone was scary and would say that Hendrix's "hat hurt." No idea where that one came from. She's all about routine and things being in their place, down to putting her sleepsack up in the mornings and asking for a bow to wear in her hair. I'm a very routine oriented person and this has obviously rubbed off on her!
GRACE CURRENTLY... spends most of her time reading books, doing puzzles, playing with her babies, or asking for Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. She still plays with her peg puzzles, but really enjoys the more complicated 4 piece peg ones. Like these. She is not eating great and seems to do the bulk of her acting out in relation to eating. Throwing food, feeding it to Hendrix, pushing her plate... Super fun stuff. One thing is for sure, she loves macaroni and cheese and can hear the word "treat" from a mile away. She's refusing all vegetables and fruit right now (insert sarcastic yay) so I have to trick her into drinking green smoothies. She thinks they're a fun drink, so it works for now. She is still very shy and reserved when we get to public play spaces. The library, indoor play areas, etc. She wants to stick very close to me and we're there for 30+ minutes before she'll interact. After that, she'll interact and play, but she really wants to observe and feel out a situation before she jumps in. She has a very gentle and sweet spirit, especially with other kids, and she genuinely likes to help out. She loves to be involved when I'm doing things around the house like unloading the dishwasher or pushing buttons to start the dryer.
GRACE IS LEARNING... Everything! She's such a little sponge. Grace can do all of the things that are on the checklist for 23 month olds. These things include kicking a ball forward, combine words, identify 6 body parts and use 50+ single words. I believe the 50 word milestone is something that pediatricians like to see by the age two, but the "What to Expect" book/app lists it at 23 months also. Grace can consistently count to 6, and can get to 10 with prompting, such as "what comes after 7?" We're working on colors but currently only have red and brown. (I credit the book Brown Bear... for the grasping of brown) and she can identify a heart and a star on the shape front. She can say ABC, but other than that, chimes in with random letters when we sing the alphabet. She knows when certain letters are coming (like P) and excitedly joins in when we reach them.

Good morning! This is the look that I gave myself when I realized it had been 12 days since I had blogged! Seriously though, how hilarious is that face.

{Gracie and her dog-dog, "Hen-diiiix!"}
Happy first Friday of the New Year! Whew. That was a mouthful. This week was a great transition back into our "normal" schedule from the travel, visitors, and relaxation of the holidays. It sounds crazy to say, but it's felt good to get back to getting up early. I like getting my day started before Grace wakes up. I'm more productive and a better mama when I have some "me" time before our little bear graces us with her presence. I hope that your new year is off to a positive start and that the coming weekend is filled with rest and relaxation. Here are five things (or pictures...) that I have enjoyed or have brought me inspiration over the past week. The one above ^ my husband sent me while I was out running errands on Monday. I was in a checkout line at a store and I started cracking up. Such a miss priss!
This seems like a random snapshot to include, I know, but with the negative wind chills that we have outside currently, I am so thankful for my new (to me!) treadmill. I can run in the comfort of my own basement and enjoy some Parenthood on Netflix at the same time. Dreamy.
I made this Creamy Garlic Mushroom Chicken for the first time this week and it was definitely our meal favorite for the week. It's the second recipe I've randomly tried from Pinterest that links back to The Recipe Critic and now I want to spend some time exploring her site.
Every picture of this kid makes me smile, but this one made me exceptionally happy this week.
I am so excited to start this skincare regimen this weekend! My MIL sent me this kit for Christmas after months of hearing nothing but glowing reviews of the brand! Here is all of their kits, if you're interested in exploring the brand yourself.

We started off our NYE thinking it was going to be just the three of us.
